About Northfield Table Tennis Club
In the 1970’s, Northfield Table Tennis Club was started by school teacher Alan Whelan. Soon after, Alan set up and ran a number of successful teams playing in the Stockton League.
When Steve Burge started teaching at Northfield, he began a Junior Development Programme that soon progressed into the biggest Junior table tennis league in the country, with 40 teams.
In the 1990’s, the Kia Ora Table Tennis Club were looking for new premises,and later amalgamated with Northfield TTC.
1999, saw Northfield School achieve Sports College Status and enabled the school make the appointment of Jane Durham as Head Coach. Jane is the driving force behind the club development programme. Success started in School competitions and from 2001, Northfield has reached many National Finals, and in April, 2011 our Under 13 girls team (Eleanor Davidson, Katie Barlow, Hannah Clark and Amy Webster) became National Champions.
Recent developments at the club, have seen the arrival of Carole Moore former Commonwealth Champion, to assist in developing our young players.
Chairman's Welcome
At the beginning of the 2011/2012 seaso, I would like to extend a warm welcome to all our members and visitors.
Our teams and individual players performed very well last season. This year we are expecting even more.
My thanks to all the famillies involved, who happily gave us their support. This is most essential to our success.
We are fortunate to have such a strong coaching squad, comprising Matthew Stanforth who is the Regional Coach and one of only three coaches in the country working towards UK level 4 coaching, Carole Moore who has vast experience at top level as English National Champion, Commonwealth Champion with many wins through out Europe, Jane Durham, an ETTA level 3 coach, who is the Coaching Co-Ordinator for the North-East Region as well as teaching Table Tennis at Northfield School, and finally Neil Besford, ETTA level 2 coach, who has many years of experience throughout the region including coaching at Ormesby Table Tennis Club, where he was involved in coaching their most successful lady players.
On your behalf, I thank the coaches for their dedication and all who have helped Northfield to become one of the countries leading Table Tennis Clubs.
